If you earn more than £1,000 in untaxed income, you may need to file a Self Assessment tax return with HM Revenue & Customs.
Filing a return doesn’t always mean you’ll owe tax. You’ll usually pay Income Tax and National Insurance if your total income is above £12,570 in a tax year.
If you make capital gains above £3,000, you may also need to pay Capital Gains Tax.
Most people in the UK don’t need to file a tax return because their taxes are deducted automatically through PAYE (Pay As You Earn) before they receive their salary.
However, in some situations you may need to submit a Self Assessment tax return to HM Revenue & Customs.
You may need to file a return if:
You’re self-employed and earned more than £1,000
You received untaxed income over £1,000
You want to claim a tax refund
HM Revenue & Customs asks you to submit one
You need to report income to qualify for certain benefits
A Payment on Account is an advance payment towards your next tax bill. Instead of paying everything in one go, HM Revenue & Customs may ask you to make two instalments during the year.
These payments are usually required from people who receive income that isn’t taxed automatically, such as self-employment or other untaxed earnings.
Typically, the two instalments are due on:
31 January
31 July
You may be asked to make Payments on Account if:
Your previous Self Assessment tax bill was over £1,000
A large portion of your tax wasn’t deducted through PAYE
HM Revenue & Customs requires advance payments based on your last tax return.
Yes the one-off fee covers the preparation and submission of your Self Assessment tax return by a qualified accountant, including VAT.
If additional work is required outside the standard filing process, we’ll inform you in advance before any extra charges apply.
Our Accuracy Guarantee applies if a mistake is made by one of our accountants while preparing your tax return. If this happens, we’ll correct the error, resubmit the return, and refund the fee you paid for the service.
The guarantee does not apply to penalties or issues caused by incorrect, incomplete, or missing information provided by you. Full terms and conditions explain the exact scope of the guarantee.
Yes. If you realise that a different level of support would suit you better, you can switch plans by contacting our support team.
All plans provide the same main service — a qualified UK accountant prepares and submits your tax return in line with the requirements of HM Revenue & Customs. The difference between plans is simply the level of support and guidance you receive.
